Census Bureau Data on Governments Census Bureau programs covering local, state and Federal agencies and activities.
Federation of Tax Administrators FTA serves as a source of information and expertise for state administrators and others on the workings of state tax agencies and systems as well as issues generally affecting tax policy and administration.
Council of State Governments The Fiscal and Budget Policy Group of the Council of State Governments focuses on financial, tax and budget policies within the states. Tracking trends on budget shortfalls, tax changes and state spending, the group provides information to state policy-makers on how other states are coping with critical financial problems.
Stateline.org This site is operated by the Pew Center on the States, a research organization administered by the University of Richmond, and funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts. Stateline.org was founded in order to help journalists, policy makers and engaged citizens become better informed about innovative public policies
The National Association of State Budget Officers The National Association of State Budget Officers Founded in 1945, NASBO serves as the professional organization for all state budget officers of the fifty states and U.S. territories. NASBO is an independent association with membership consisting of the heads of state budget offices, state finance departments and their staffs.
Council On State Taxation The Council On State Taxation(COST) is the premier state tax organization representing taxpayers. COST is a nonprofit trade association consisting of approximately 550 multistate corporations engaged in interstate and international business. COST's objective is to preserve and promote equitable and nondiscriminatory state and local taxation of multijurisdictional business entities.
National Conference of State Legislatures The NCSL website provides a source for comprehensive information, research on critical state issues, informative publications, provocative meetings and seminars.
E-commerce taxation issues This page includes background papers on E-commerce taxation issues, statistics, work being done on the issues by various groups, and several points to consider in examining how various tax rules should (or should not) apply to e-commerce.
Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center This site contains the revenue sources and income tax rates for each state. It also includes federal tax revenues by state. Tax Facts provides tax information for citizens, policy analysts, legislators, and the press. Data are compiled from a variety of sources, including the Urban Institute, Brookings Institution, Internal Revenue Service, the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Congressional Budget Office, the Department of the Treasury, the Federation of Tax Administrators, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Tax Foundation the Tax Foundation is the only organization that: analyzes data from all levels of government; explores the effect of tax policy on businesses and individuals alike; and channels this information to the general public. In this way, the Tax Foundation serves as a national clearinghouse, providing Americans with a better understanding of their tax system and the effects of tax policy.
Center on Budget and Policy Priorities The Center specializes in research and analysis oriented toward policy decisions that policymakers face at both federal and state levels. The Center examines data and research findings and produces analyses designed to be accessible to public officials, other non-profit organizations, and the media.
Tax Rates and Tax Burdens In The District of Columbia -A Nationwide Comparison This publication from the Government of the District of Columbia, contains two reports: (I) Tax burdens in Washington, D.C., Compared with Those in the Largest City in Each State, 2001 and (II) A Comparison of Selected Tax Rates in the District of Columbia with Those in the 50 States: A Compendium of Tables.
Governmental Research Association The GRA is the national organization of individuals professionally engaged in governmental research. The purpose of the Association is to encourage individuals and organizations to engage in governmental research in the general interest. Governmental research involves the collection, analysis, and distribution of factual information on governmental activities to citizens and officials for the improvement of government and the reduction of its cost. Links are provided to organizations in other states similar to PARCA.
