Sources of Assistance for Second-Year Teachers in Grades P-3
The survey results for all second-year P-3 teachers on sources of assistance are shown in the five charts below. To view each chart, click on the heading. More than ninety percent of all responding second-year P-3 teachers want assistance from their principal or assistant principal, and from other teachers in the school. Eighty percent or more of responding second-year P-3 teachers want assistance from professional development activities, and from an assigned mentor teacher. These four clearly are the most sought-after sources of professional help for second-year P-3 teachers. Two-thirds of second-year P-3 teachers also name others as sources of help (frequently mentioning a special education teacher or counselor), and over half seek help from central office supervisors. Less than forty percent of the responding second-year P-3 teachers seek help from other administrators, and even fewer from higher education representatives. The chart shows these results.
